Switches & Media Convertors

Switches are more ‘efficient’ than Hubs because they learn where to send the data packets by building up a
routing table within the Switches-thus reducing network overhead and faster response times between servers and Pcs

Our basic Dynamode Switches, such as the 5 and 8-ports are perfect for Home and Small Business users alike and being a desktop design, they can be hidden away and connect PCs over standard Cat5 or Cat5e cables!

Dynamode Gigabit Switches (such as the SW24002G) offers an easy path to the world of Gigabit Ethernet (1000BaseT). Around 10x faster than Fast Ethernet (100BaseT) these Switches are perfect for attaching to Servers for increased data throughput using standard Cat5 or Cat5e cabling

All our Switches uses ASIC chipsets which are special Processors which are optimised to increase data speeds over the LAN, when compared with other ‘leading’ brands of Switches!

Broadband - Wired Routers

ADSL

An ADSL router is usually the best way to connect to your high speed ADSL Broadband connection. They allow multiple users to use your Internet service at the same time so everyone can enjoy high-end Internet functions like streaming video and audio. An ADSL Router will create a local area network, so you can also share files, printers and other network peripherals. Most also provide a much safer internet connection with built-in firewall security preventing unauthorised access of your network from the internet.

ADSL routers can only be used via BT's copper phone lines which have been enabled with ADSL broadband. ADSL routers have a built-in ADSL modem, making them a very tidy, one box solution. Most also have built-in Ethernet switches allowing you to connect multiple computers to the router. Should you wish to expand the number of ports, you'll need an additional switch to connect to.

DSL

A Broadband Router connection is usually the best way to connect to your high speed Broadband connection. Broadband Routers allow multiple users to use your Internet service at the same time so everyone can enjoy high-end Internet functions like streaming video and audio. Share files, printers and other peripherals, most broadband routers also provide a much safer internet connection with built-in firewall security preventing unauthorised access of your network from the internet.

Broadband routers can only be used via a Cable modem connection. Broadband routers (Cable/DSL Routers) don't have built-in modems and are primarily used with Cable Modem broadband where the Ethernet broadband modem is supplied by your ISP. The router must be fed the internet connection via Ethernet and so cannot be used with ADSL USB modems. Some routers can be used on ADSL Broadand with a separate ADSL Ethernet Modem. Should you need to expand the number of ports, you'll need a switch to connect to.

Broadband - Wireless Routers

802.11b is 11Mbps, 802.11g is 54Mbps. All Dynamode 54Mbps are backwardly compatible with 11Mbps Wireless devices such as Access Points, Wireless USB adapters and Wireless PCI cards.

Dynamode 54Mbps Wireless kit is WiFi compliant which means it works with other people’s kit say from 3Com, Netgear, Dlink and Cisco for example. Check the WiFi logo on this sheet.

Quoted Wireless ranges from manufacturers is 100 meters. In reality this is rarely achieved due to walls, windows, mobile phones etc. In an average house it’s around 30-40 meters. But it depends on the house!

Some people get paranoid about security on Wirelessm networks. Dynamode products have various levels of security. WEP (Wireless Equivalent Protocol) encrypts data when transmitted. Other methods we support include MAC address Filtering and SSID non-broadcasting.

All Dynamode Access Points, Routers and PCI cards come with a screw on antenna. This is known as a SMA thread type. It allows the customer to simply screw a higher power (bigger) antenna to double or triple the distance of the Access Point. They can be purchased for only a few pounds from the Net!
